INCIDENT NOTIFICATION BY ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE FLSD

When a suspected car/vehicle that might contain a bomb or explosive device is identified in proximity to your building, the FLSD may issue directives with respect to relocation of store employees and customers to another point within the complex away from the location of the vehicle.

During initial announcements, the location of the vehicle will be identified, and warnings issued advising occupants not to remain near the area, or that side of the building.

  1. An initial announcement will alert you to a possible suspicious vehicle incident and the FLSD may issue a series of directives based on current knowledge of the event.
  2. The FLSD and staff will have already contacted the proper authorities and they are either enroute or already on the scene of the incident. They may have already provided the FLSD with additional instructions that will be relayed to you via the public address system.
  3. The initial announcement will identify the area of the possible incident and advise all occupants to stay away from and/or avoid going near that location, or that side of the building.
  4. Additional instructions may be broadcast regarding the restricted stairways, escalators, elevators and exits which SHOULD NOT be used during relocation or evacuation activities.
  5. At this time, ensure that your employees understand the instructions received over the public address system and know how to proceed to the designated relocation area.
  6. Take your personal possessions with you because you may not be able to re-enter the building, even after the "All-Clear" order is given.
  7. Cease conducting business and instruct in-store customers to follow the employees, or yourself, and to stay together as a group and assist each other enroute.
  8. Lock the doors to your workspace before departing, ensuring that you are the last person to depart.
  9. You may also, at any time, be directed to evacuate the building. At this time, you should evacuate using ONLY those exits identified by the FLSD.
  10. Some stairways, escalators and exits SHOULD NOT be used that are on the side of the building where the suspected vehicle is located. The FLSD will advise everyone which exits NOT TO BE USED during the evacuation.
  11. Proceed calmly but swiftly to the exits designated for the incident.
  12. During the egress, do not stop to take photos or videos of any activities. Any delay in exiting the building could result in injury, or possible death, if the suspect car explodes and causes destruction.
  13. If required, assist any persons having handicap or disability needs during the evacuation.
  14. If evacuation is the proper response, remain at the outside assembly area designated by the FLSD until an “All-Clear” order is issued by building staff or by law enforcement personnel.
  15. During and after the event, observe your Company’s policies unless they conflict with the directions of the FLSD, which shall take precedence over any other existing directions. The FLSD is the on-scene authority under whose directions and instructions govern your action during this type of incident.
